November 7th, 2018, The William M. Raines Viking Battalion (J.R.O.T.C.) took a trip to the
AT&T Call Facility. The trip was a long-awaited experience in partnership with The Junior
Achievement Program and 38 cadets were able to attend. The occasion took place on a weekday
(Wednesday) and the cadets came to the school in their Class A Uniforms and eager to learn new
possibilities of the workforce.

All the cadets that participated in this event, were inspected and situated before being seated on
the bus. When we arrived at the facility, we went to the presentation room that was located on
the top floor of the building. When All cadets were seated the workers of the AT&T company
began to inform the history of the company amongst cadets and how it has expanded and
impacted the telephone service over the years. The first expansion was based on the telephone
lines and how difficult it was for people of the community to communicate due to difficult
wiring. The cadets learned more historical facts about the company such as its funding and the
resources that contributed to the evolution of the telephone business.

The cadets were very involved, each person was able to see how the workers did their everyday
jobs. Giving the cadets a point of view of not just a job but a career in the communications
industry. With that being said, each cadet became more intrigued. It was a real-world experience
for cadets to be exposed to opportunities outside of a post-secondary education. The trip showed
cadets how field employees operate even in the toughest circumstances and how tools of
knowledge can be used outside the office. After the trip, each person left the facility with more to
think about, more opportunities and more knowledge about the industry of communications.

The Junior Achievement Program has been in partnership with The Junior Reserve Officers
Training Corps of Cadets to maximize the options for our young leaders to consider. The Junior
Achievement Program has a long outstanding commute to helping our youth in the state of
Florida. With showing cadets that careers are possible no matter the circumstances they go
through or the situations that occur in everyday life. Each cadet learned and discovered things
that they can now consider as future employment. Thanks to The Junior Achievement Program,
now the tools that the event has taught the young cadets will now be used to build a flourishing
and unique future for others to learn and thrive from.

The occasion was successful by enriching the lives of our cadets and the benefits they took
from the learning experience. With showing our everyday leaders that leadership can take place
outside the classroom and into the workforce. Creating applications into the real-world for our
future leaders to impact and others to follow. Due to The Junior Achievement Program giving us
the opportunity to embrace and guide our future in the right direction. On behalf of The Junior
Reserve Officers Training Corps of Cadets, we want to give a special thank you to The Junior
Achievement Program for providing the tools of experience and more opportunities for us to
build our future.
